Data recovery: Like death and taxes, one thing that’s certain is that your computer’s hard drive will eventually fail – which is why you regularly back up all your important files, don’t you? But all the same, the day may come when you desperately need to recover “lost” data.

Steps to take if you have lost files or email:
- Try not to panic – Most files can be recovered if they have not been overwritten.
- Shut down the computer and leave it switched off - This means no more files can be written to the drive.

Things not to do:
- Install software on the computer to recover the files – this will increase the chance of you files being overwritten
- Use system restore to try and get the files back – this does not effect your files, just system files, and will increase the chances of your files being overwritten.
- Continue using the computer.
